The story of Mckenzee
Eilean Donan sits on a small island where three lochs meet, and it was a Mackenzie stronghold kept by the Macraes. During a Jacobite rising it was garrisoned by a small force of Spanish soldiers, which drew three Royal Navy frigates up the loch. They bombarded it, landed, found the powder store and blew the castle apart. It lay in ruins for the better part of two centuries before one man bought the island and spent twenty years rebuilding it, and it is now one of the most photographed buildings in Scotland, which is a strange afterlife for a place the navy once removed from the map. The spelling here is the modern American part. English tends to end its words in a double e, as in coffee and committee, and its names in ie or y, as in Katie and Kelly.
