In 1818, walking through Scotland, John Keats wrote 'Old Meg she was a gipsy', a ballad for his little sister about Meg Merrilies from Walter Scott's novel Guy Mannering. In 1929 Megan Lloyd George, daughter of the former prime minister, won the seat of Anglesey and became the first woman to represent a Welsh constituency in the House of Commons. Megan crossed to America in the twentieth century, and Maygan writes the vowel that many Americans use.
