The story of Marvina
Marvin came into English from Welsh through the surname Mervin and became a common American boy's name in the early twentieth century; families made daughters' names from it by adding -a. In Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which began on BBC radio in 1978, Marvin is the Paranoid Android, a robot with 'a brain the size of a planet' and nothing worth using it on, who has become one of the best-loved characters in British comedy. Marvina has no history apart from Marvin.
