The story of Marcelline
Marceline Desbordes-Valmore spent her life as a jobbing actress and singer, wrote poems in the gaps, and lost most of her children. She was the only woman Verlaine included when he made his list of the poets he thought had been overlooked, and Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Aragon all said they had learned something from her; she is credited with introducing meters into French verse that nobody had used before her. She had almost no formal education and no money for most of her life, and the poems she is remembered for are the ones about her children, written without any of the consolation the century usually demanded on that subject.
Meaning
of Mars, at several removes
Marcus is one of the small handful of first names the Romans actually used, and it is generally taken as belonging to the god of war. Latin made diminutives easily and stacked them without embarrassment, so the chain from Marcus to Marcellinus is entirely regular. French then added its own feminine ending, which is why the name looks French and is Roman all the way down. Each layer softened it a little, which is how a war god ends up as a name for a daughter.

Marcelline sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
