The story of Lynden
Linden wood is soft, even-grained and does not split, which made it the timber of choice for the carved altarpieces of late medieval Germany — Riemenschneider and Stoss both worked in it almost exclusively. The tree also gave the surname Lindberg and the Berlin avenue Unter den Linden. As a given name Lynden appears in American records for both sexes from the twentieth century.
Meaning
linden tree, lime tree
From Old English lind, the linden or lime tree, with the adjectival ending; the same word gives the second element of Rosalind and Belinda, where it meant a shield made of lime wood.

About 1 girl in 13,856 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 45,922 for Lynden itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
