The story of Lorenzo
The name begins as Latin Laurentius and spreads through Europe on the strength of Saint Lawrence, a deacon martyred at Rome in the third century, whose cult reached almost every Western church. Latin Laurentius became Lorenzo in Italian and Spanish, Laurent in French, Lourenço in Portuguese, Lorenz in German and Lawrence in English. In fifteenth-century Florence it belonged to Lorenzo de' Medici, remembered as il Magnifico, and the Renaissance association has clung to it ever since. It has been recorded in the United States for as long as national name records exist, carried by Italian and Hispanic families, and unlike many nineteenth-century names it is climbing rather than fading.
Meaningscholars disagree
from Laurentum; associated with the laurel
The Latin original, Laurentius, means "of Laurentum" — a town in Latium south of Rome. Laurentum's own name is widely linked to laurus, the laurel, so the name has long been read as "laurel-crowned" as well. Both readings are serious; the place-name is the direct one, the laurel the older poetic layer.

Lorenzo sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
