Where it comes from

The story of Lizzet

On the eighteenth-century French stage Lisette was the standard name for the witty lady's maid — the soubrette who sees through everyone — and Marivaux gave the name to several of them, most famously in The Game of Love and Chance. In America Lizzie was a familiar name for a dependable servant or horse, and when Ford's Model T appeared in 1908 it was soon nicknamed the Tin Lizzie; several explanations for the nickname exist and none has been proved. Lizzet came into American use in the late twentieth century, largely with Spanish-speaking families.
