The story of Ledarius
Darius was the throne name of three Persian kings, the first of them the ruler whose army the Athenians beat at Marathon. The name is in the Bible too: the Book of Daniel places a 'Darius the Mede' on the throne of Babylon after Belshazzar, a king historians have never matched to anyone in the records of the time, which say Babylon fell to Cyrus. American naming took Darius as it was and later set Le- in front of it; nothing records the first family to make that join.

Fashion outlook
Ledarius sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Contains a name with an ancient, well-documented history and a settled meaning.
- The spelling is regular; once heard, it is written correctly.
- It will be split as Le Darius or LeDarius on forms, and the family may want to settle on one capitalization.
- At four syllables it is long beside most surnames; the core name, Darius, is ready to hand if a shorter form is wanted.
