Lawerance

The story of Lawerance
The fame came from a lecture tour: an American journalist put together a show about the Arab campaign with slides and music, it played to enormous audiences in London and New York, and Lawrence went from an intelligence officer nobody had heard of to the most recognizable man in Britain. He hated it, or said he did, and spent the rest of his life in the ranks under other names, translating Homer and writing an enormous book about the campaign that he then lost the manuscript of at a railway station and had to rewrite.
Meaning
from Laurentum, and so of the laurel
The Roman name comes from a town south of Rome, connected by the Romans themselves to the laurel. This spelling inserts a vowel into the middle of the English form, producing three syllables where the name has two — which means the letters describe a pronunciation that nobody uses, and the extra syllable exists only on the page.
