Our story of Laron
The La- prefix is the earliest of the American naming prefixes and its history is traceable. French naming was substantial in Louisiana and along the Gulf, and la- surnames were common there. From the 1920s the element detached and became available for building: LaVerne, LaVerne, LaRue, LaDonna, LaTonya, LaMont, Laron. It peaked in the 1950s and 1960s and had largely given way to De- by the 1970s and to Da- and Ja- by the 1980s. That succession — La-, then De-, then Da- and Ja-, then Ke- and Za- — is one of the clearest sequences in the American record, and it means a prefix dates a name almost as precisely as an ending does. Laron, with a La- front and a 1976 peak, sits at the very end of its prefix's run.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No documented meaning for the compound. The La- prefix comes from French and Louisiana Creole surnames, where la is the feminine definite article — LaFleur, LaRue, LaVigne. In American given names it lost that grammatical function entirely and became a free-standing element applicable to either sex. The -ron ending may come from Ron or from Aaron, or may carry nothing. Neither half can be shown for this name.
