Our story of Landy
In 1954 the Australian runner John Landy became the second man to run a mile in under four minutes, six weeks after Roger Bannister. At the Empire Games in Vancouver that August the two met in the 'Miracle Mile'; on the last bend Landy glanced over his left shoulder to find Bannister, and Bannister passed him on the right. A statue of that moment stands in Vancouver. Landy shares that surname, a short, friendly name with a runner's story in it.
