Where it comes from

The story of Lamario

Two men made Mario an American name. Mario Andretti spent part of his childhood in a refugee camp in Tuscany after the Second World War, came to Nazareth, Pennsylvania, as a teenager, and went on to win the Indianapolis 500 and the Formula One world championship. Mario Lanza, the tenor who played Caruso on film, was born Alfredo Cocozza in Philadelphia and built his stage name from his mother's, Maria Lanza. Lamario adds the La- opening to their name.
