Our story of Kyden
Our story of Kyden is about the valleys. Denu named a particular kind of English landscape — not a gorge but a long shallow valley with a stream in it, the sort of place a settlement naturally forms — and once you know the word you start seeing it everywhere: Camden, Marsden, Todmorden, Hayden. Those names all describe real ground somebody walked over. Kyden does not descend from any of them, as far as anyone can show. But it ends the way they end, and it entered American naming on the strength of that sound, which means a thousand-year-old word for a valley is doing quiet work in a name invented in the last twenty years. Names get made out of what is lying around, and this is what was lying around.

Not established
The ending is real: Old English denu, 'valley', gives the -den of Camden, Marsden, Hayden and Tenterden, and the element is well documented. The opening is not: Ky- corresponds to no recorded element and belongs to the current American stock of bright single-syllable openings — Ky, Kai, Ky-. Kyden appears in the record without a derivation, and reading the valley into the whole name would be borrowing the ending's history for it.

The Jarron test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Kyden's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jarron climbed just as high around 1989, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jarron's path sketches the road Kyden is walking now.
