Kandyce
Feminine
Kandyce uses three respelling devices in six letters: a k for a c at the front, a y for an i in the middle, and a c kept at the back where it could have gone. That is a high density of decision for a short name, and it makes this one of the more heavily worked spellings of a name that already had several.

Where it comes from
From A royal title in the kingdom of Kush to Kandyce
The story of Kandyce
The passage in Acts is short and the queen is not in it. A court official of hers is traveling home, reading a scroll in a chariot, and is intercepted by an evangelist who explains the passage to him and baptizes him at the first water they pass; the official then continues and disappears from the narrative. He is described by his office and by whose treasurer he was, and the queen is named only by her title, which is why her title became a name. The man himself is the one with the story, and later Ethiopian tradition made a good deal of him, treating him as the founder of Christianity in the region. The queen who never appears is the one whose word ended up on birth certificates.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The name comes from a title borne by a line of queens in the kingdom of Kush, transmitted through a mention in Acts and treated by later readers as a personal name. Its meaning in the original language is not established. So the name has a precise historical origin and no recoverable translation, which is an unusual combination and worth stating as it is.

Fashion outlook
Kandyce sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The sound is entirely familiar and needs no coaching.
- It carries a genuinely interesting historical origin that most people do not know.
- It is distinctive on paper while being ordinary in speech.
- Three respelling devices at once means a lifetime of spelling it out.
- The obvious short form has associations the full name does not carry.
- There is no meaning to give, because the source is a title rather than a word.
