The story of Kameren
Cameron was the name of a Highland clan and of Lowland families from a place called Cameron in Fife, and it crossed to America as a surname. Among its bearers was Julia Margaret Cameron, who was given a camera by her daughter and son-in-law in 1863, at the age of forty-eight, and within a few years became one of the great portrait photographers of the Victorian age. The sound is also close to Cameroon, whose name comes from Portuguese sailors who, in the fifteenth century, found the Wouri estuary full of shrimp and called it Rio dos Camarões, the river of prawns. Kameren is one of the respellings that followed Cameron's rise as a first name.
