The story of Jhett
Whitby jet was carved from the Bronze Age and became the material of Victorian mourning jewelry after Prince Albert's death. Jett rose as an American boys' name from the 1990s, helped by an actor's son named that in 1992. The Jh- respelling appears in the American registers in the 2010s and is in current use.

Through Jett, from the English jet, the black lignite gemstone, from the Old French jaiet and ultimately Gagates, a town in Asia Minor. The aviation sense of 'jet' is a separate word from the French jeter, 'to throw'. The stone reading is the older one.

The Kimani test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jhett's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kimani climbed just as high around 1972, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kimani's path sketches the road Jhett is walking now.
Jhett sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
