Jestin
Masculine · “Just”
Jestin lands on an English word by accident. A jest is a joke, and the name has nothing to do with it: the name is Justin, from a Latin word about fairness, and the vowel in the first syllable is unstressed enough that swapping it changes almost nothing except what the written name resembles.

The story of Jestin
The emperor who carried the fuller form of this name shut the door on the ancient world in a single decade. Justinian closed the philosophical schools of Athens, which had been running in some form since Plato, on the grounds that pagan teaching had no place in a Christian empire, and the last teachers left for Persia; whether the closure was as total as later writers made it is argued about, but the schools do not appear again. In the same years he had the entire mass of Roman law, a thousand years of contradictory rulings, sorted and codified. The codification is the foundation of most European law and the closure ended a nine-hundred-year institution, and the same man did both.
Meaning
Just, fair
Latin iustus, just or upright, gave the Roman name Iustinus, a diminutive form of it. The meaning is about conduct measured against a standard rather than about mercy or kindness, and it belongs to the vocabulary of law. Nothing in this spelling changes any of that; it changes only which English word the name looks like.

Fashion outlook
Jestin sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
