The story of Jerid
The Book of Enoch, which is not in most Bibles and is in the Ethiopian one, takes that one-verse man and builds on him. In its account it was in his days that the watchers — angels who were supposed to be observing — came down to earth, took human wives and taught humanity metalwork, cosmetics, astrology and weapons, which is how the world got bad enough to need a flood. The book plays on the name: descent, and the ones who descended. It was widely read for centuries, quoted in the New Testament, then dropped out of the Western canon entirely and survived in Ethiopia, where it never stopped being scripture.
