Where it comes from

The story of Jasmeen

English has used jasmine and its older spelling jessamine for the fragrant climbing plant since the sixteenth century, and the name has been borrowed by other plants: the Carolina jessamine, a yellow-flowered vine of the southern woods, was made South Carolina's state flower in 1924, though it belongs to a different family entirely and is poisonous. Jasmine became a popular girl's name in the late twentieth century, and Jasmeen is one of its spellings; nothing records why families chose the double e.
