The story of Jacqulyn
The name has a real medieval owner. Jacqueline of Hainaut inherited Holland, Zeeland and Hainaut as a girl in the early fifteenth century, married four times, fought her own uncle for her lands, lost them, and died in her thirties; the Low Countries have been naming daughters after her ever since. French kept Jacqueline, with the -ine ending it uses for women's names. English borrowed it whole and then began taking it apart: the ending became -lyn, the e in the middle was dropped, and the qu survived every round because it looks like the point of the name. In French it is simply how that language spells a k before an a.
