Our story of Jacklyn is a story of two possible mothers. Jacqueline is the French feminine of Jacques — James, from the Hebrew Jacob — and American speech ground it toward Jacklyn. Separately, Jack is John's pet form and -lyn a Welsh lake made into a suffix. Both routes produce the same sound, and American records from the mid-twentieth century do not distinguish. Whichever it is, the Hebrew behind it is old.
