The story of Ivee
Ivy and holly are the two plants that stay green through an English winter, which is why both carry midwinter meaning and why the carol pairs them. Ivy was also the plant of Dionysus, and Greek revellers wore it. Victorian naming took Ivy up with the other plants and it peaked around 1900; it has returned strongly since 2010, and Ivee is a modern respelling.
Meaning
the ivy plant
From Old English ifig, the ivy; the further origin is not established. The plant was sacred to Dionysus in Greek religion and is one of the two evergreens — with holly — that carry midwinter symbolism in Britain.

The Jensine test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ivee's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jensine climbed just as high around 1987, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jensine's path sketches the road Ivee is walking now.
Ivee sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled meaning tied to a real and very familiar plant.
- Four letters and two syllables, about as easy to write as a name gets.
- Read correctly on sight by every English speaker.
- Ivy is the standard spelling and will be written for her constantly.
- Ivy is very widely used now, so a classroom may hold more than one.
- The doubled e looks like a typo to English readers.
