The story of Imaan
A much-cited tradition divides religion into three: islam, the outward practice; iman, the inward faith; and ihsan, doing things beautifully as though God were watching. Iman is the middle term and names what a person actually holds. It is used as a women's name across the Muslim world, and Imaan with a doubled a is the South Asian transliteration marking a long vowel.
Meaning
faith, belief
From an Arabic root meaning to be secure or to trust; iman names inward belief as against outward submission. The same root gives amin, trustworthy, and the word amen as an affirmation.

About 1 girl in 12,656 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 44,646 for Imaan itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

Line the two peaks up, and Yanelly's path sketches the road Imaan is walking now.
