Our story of Hina
Ours, offered as ours. Hina is one of the most widely attested figures in Polynesian religion — she appears from Hawaii to New Zealand to Tahiti, associated with the moon, with tapa cloth and in some accounts with the woman visible in the moon's face. That a single divine name should survive across a third of the planet's surface says something about how carefully those traditions were carried. The Japanese and Urdu names are separate and equally real.

The Rifka test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Hina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Rifka climbed just as high around 1974, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Rifka's path sketches the road Hina is walking now.
Hina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Three real traditions produce it, each with something substantial behind it.
- Four letters and two syllables, about as easy to write as a name gets.
- Open vowels make it easy to say in most languages.
- The Japanese meaning depends on characters a Roman spelling cannot carry.
- It is a Polynesian divine name, which those communities may have views about.
- Hina, Hena and Heena are all in use and get confused.
