Our story of Haidyn
Ours, offered as ours. English place names ending in -den and -don look nearly identical now and mean a valley and a hill — opposites — because the Old English denu and dun both wore down to the same modern spelling. Whole counties of place names are therefore ambiguous unless the ground is checked. Hayden has examples of both, and no modern spelling of the name preserves the distinction. Haidyn is four removes from either.

hay valley, or heather hill
From Old English heg, hay, with denu, a valley, or from haeth, heather, with dun, a hill. Different English Haydens carry different elements, and the modern spellings preserve neither.

About 1 boy in 56,936 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 74,264 for Haidyn itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Nevada test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Haidyn's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Nevada climbed just as high around 1983, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Nevada's path sketches the road Haidyn is walking now.
