The story of Haddie
Esther 2 says she was Hadassah, that is Esther — one woman with a Hebrew name and a Persian one, and the book uses only the Persian afterwards. Myrtle was a plant of celebration in Jewish practice and is one of the four species of Sukkot. Haddie appears in American records rising and is in current use.

myrtle
Two routes. Through Hadassah, from the Hebrew hadas, 'myrtle', which the book of Esther gives as her Hebrew name. Or as a short form of Harriet, from the Germanic Heinrich, 'home ruler'. Both are attributed; the Hadassah route is the commoner explanation now.

The Sumer test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Haddie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Sumer climbed just as high around 1977, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Sumer's path sketches the road Haddie is walking now.
Haddie sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- That Esther had a Hebrew name the book almost immediately drops is a genuinely good detail.
- The myrtle meaning is concrete and has real ritual weight.
- Hadassah is available as a full formal version.
- The origin is genuinely split between Hebrew and Germanic routes.
- Hattie and Maddie are both close enough to cause confusion.
- It reads as a diminutive rather than a full name.
