The story of Georgette
George became a Christian name through the soldier-saint whose legend acquired the dragon in the medieval period, and France made Georgette and Georgine from it. A silk crêpe fabric is named after a French dressmaker called Georgette, which is how the word entered English dictionaries. The name was well used in American records in the middle of the twentieth century.

The Alfreda test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Georgette's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Alfreda climbed just as high around 1925, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Alfreda's path sketches the road Georgette is walking now.
