Felica
Feminine · “lucky”
Removing the i should change the consonant. In English an i or an e after a c softens it, which is why Felicia begins its third syllable with a sh sound; take the letter away and the rules say the c ought to harden to a k. Almost nobody who carries this spelling says it that way, which leaves the name working against its own orthography.

The story of Felica
Rome personified good fortune and put her on the money. Felicitas was a state goddess, one of a set of abstractions — Concord, Victory, Piety, Hope — that the empire treated as real divine powers and stamped on the coinage as a form of political messaging: a new emperor issuing coins showing Felicity was announcing that the good times had arrived. She had temples and a festival. It is one of the more revealing things about Roman religion that a quality could be a goddess with a priesthood, and one of the more revealing things about Roman politics that her image was a standard item in the imperial mint's repertoire.

From a Latin adjective, and the sense is secure. The word was a common Roman cognomen and later a favorite among Christians, for whom it carried a slightly different weight than mere good fortune.

Fashion outlook
Felica sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The meaning is straightforwardly positive and easy to explain.
- The rhythm is even and the name is comfortable at length.
- It is rarer than the standard spelling while sounding identical.
- The spelling suggests a hard c that nobody uses, so it works against itself.
- Felicia and Felecia are both commoner and this gets corrected.
- It is tied to the decades of its American use.
