The story of Farley
Farley Mowat wrote about the Arctic, about wolves, and about the people the Canadian government had left to starve, and his books did more to change public opinion in Canada than any royal commission. He was also, by his own account, a writer who would not let the facts get in the way of the truth — a line he offered as a defense and which his critics have quoted at him ever since. The wolf book in particular has been picked apart by biologists. It also persuaded a generation that wolves were not vermin, which is the sort of trade that makes people argue about him fifty years later.
