Our story of Eyvonne
Every part of a yew will kill you except the red flesh of the berry, and the seed inside that flesh is lethal. Livestock die from browsing it, the leaves stay toxic when dry, and the tree has been treated with caution for as long as there are records. Then, in the second half of the twentieth century, a screening program looking for anti-cancer compounds in plants found one in the bark of the Pacific yew, and it turned out to work on ovarian and breast tumors by a mechanism nobody had seen before. Harvesting it stripped and killed the trees, so chemists spent years learning to make it from needles instead. The most poisonous tree in the northern forests is now a standard chemotherapy.

Fashion outlook
Eyvonne sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The sound is entirely familiar, so it is never a puzzle once heard.
- Vonnie is available as a short form and has a long history of its own.
- The added letter makes the first syllable explicit, which arguably helps a reader.
- Yvonne is the standard spelling and this one will be corrected to it constantly.
- Evonne and Yvonne are both in the record, so the spelling will be checked back with you.
- No reason for the added letter is documented, so there is nothing to say when someone asks.
