The story of Eunice
A different Eunice founded something. Eunice Kennedy Shriver had a sister who was disabled and who was given a lobotomy at twenty-three that left her unable to speak or walk properly, after which the family placed her in an institution and largely stopped discussing her. Decades later Shriver started a summer camp in her own garden for children with intellectual disabilities, ran it for years, and grew it into an international competition with millions of participants. She campaigned publicly on the subject at a time when American families were still routinely advised to institutionalise and forget. The organization she built is the largest of its kind in the world and it began in a back yard in Maryland.
Meaning
Good victory
Greek eu, well or good, and nike, victory: the same two elements that give eulogy and Nicholas. It was an ordinary Greek woman's name before it was a Christian one, and the meaning is transparent in a way that most names of that age are not.

Fashion outlook
Eunice sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The meaning is positive, transparent and can be given to a child in two words.
- It has been in continuous use since the first century and is spelled the same way in Spanish and Portuguese.
- It is genuinely uncommon now while being entirely familiar in sound.
- The record carries it for boys in small numbers, so it is not quite an absolute signal.
- It is strongly dated to the turn of the last century in American ears.
- The stressed syllable is an English word, which children notice.
