The story of Eulogio
In Greek, eulogia is praise or a blessing, and it applies to the living as readily as to the dead: a letter of commendation is one, and in the eastern churches the word is used for blessed bread distributed at the end of a service. English narrowed it to the speech at a funeral within a few centuries of borrowing it, so that eulogizing somebody now implies that they are beyond hearing it. The Spanish name comes from a ninth-century saint of Córdoba, which is why it is common in Spain and Latin America and almost unknown in English-speaking countries.
Meaning
good speech, blessing
The Greek joins the prefix meaning well to the root about speaking, and the reading is settled. The same elements give English eulogy and, by a different route, the word for a blessing in Greek liturgy.

Fashion outlook
Eulogio sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The meaning is settled and can be given in two words.
- It is entirely ordinary in Spanish-speaking countries and genuinely rare in the United States.
- Lolo is a ready affectionate form that Spanish-speaking households recognize.
- The g is said as an h in Spanish and as a g by English readers, which is the main correction.
- Five syllables is a great deal for an American form and it will be shortened by other people first.
- The English word eulogy sits close to it and carries a funeral association it does not deserve.
