Emmaly
Feminine · “whole”
Emma and Emily are not the same name and are not related. Emma is Germanic and means whole. Emily is Latin, from a Roman clan whose name may come from a word for a rival. Modern parents treat them as versions of each other, and spellings like Emmaly sit exactly on the seam.

The story of Emmaly
Emma reached England in one carry: Emma of Normandy married two kings of England in succession, was the mother of two more, and made her Norman name ordinary in a country that had not used it. It was a short form to begin with, standing for the long Germanic compounds that opened with ermen. Emily arrived separately and much later, from Latin through French. The two names sound alike at the front and have converged in American use, which is why Emmalee, Emmaly, Emalee and Emilee all exist: they are not respellings of one name but attempts to have both at once.
Meaningscholars disagree
whole, universal
If the front half is Emma, the meaning is the Germanic ermen or irmin, whole or universal, which was a name element long before it was a name. If the spelling is aiming at Emily, the source is Latin Aemilia, from the Roman gens Aemilius, whose own root is unsettled. The two are unrelated, and this spelling does not say which one it means.
