The story of Eileene
Eileen Gray, born in Ireland, became a designer of lacquered furniture and chairs in Paris and then built her own modernist villa, E-1027, on the cliffs above the Mediterranean. Le Corbusier, a frequent guest, later painted large murals on its white walls without her permission, and she regarded it as vandalism. Eileen came to America with Irish families, and Eileene adds a final e that no older form has.
