The story of Edvin
Eadwine was king of Northumbria in the seventh century and gave his name, by tradition, to Edinburgh. Like almost all English names of its kind it was pushed aside after the Norman Conquest and revived in the nineteenth century. From England it traveled to Scandinavia and central Europe, where the v spelling belongs, and Edvin has been in use in Sweden, Croatia, Hungary and Armenia since. American records show it with families from all of them.
