Dujuan
Masculine · “God is gracious”
Dujuan keeps the Spanish u that English usually turns into a w. Juan begins with a consonant and then a glide, and English hears the glide as a w and writes it that way in most respellings; this one leaves the vowel where Spanish put it and lets the reader work it out.

The story of Dujuan
The greatest Spanish poet to carry the name wrote his best work in a cell. John of the Cross was imprisoned by his own religious order, who disapproved of the reform he was part of, in a room too small to stand up in with a single high window; he was there for the better part of a year, was flogged weekly, and composed in his head, since he had nothing to write with for most of it. What came out was the Spiritual Canticle and the poem about the dark night, which are among the finest things written in Spanish. He escaped through a window using a rope of cut blankets. The order that locked him up canonized him in the end.
Meaning
God is gracious, with an added prefix
Juan is the Spanish form of John, from a Hebrew sentence about God showing favor. The front of this name is an American prefix carrying nothing. So the meaning belongs entirely to the second half and the first half is a shape, which is the ordinary arrangement for names built this way.
How the name formed

Two syllables with the stress at the back. Spanish says Juan as one syllable with the j made in the throat; English breaks it into two and turns the j into a d or drops it, which is what this spelling records.

Fashion outlook
Dujuan sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The name inside it is among the most widely carried in the world.
- Final stress gives it a definite finish and makes it carry when called.
- Every sound in it is available to an English speaker without training.
- Dujuan, Dujuan and Dewan all appear in the record for closely related sounds.
- Spanish speakers will read the second half correctly and the first half as nothing at all.
- The prefix has no meaning, so half the name cannot be explained to a child.
