The story of Dominika
Dominika is the Czech, Slovak and Polish form of the Latin Dominica, and in all three languages almost every woman's name ends in -a. In Poland that was not only a habit: registrars long refused girls' names that did not end in -a, with only a handful of exceptions, until the rules were loosened in the twenty-first century. The name's best-known modern bearer is the Slovak player Dominika Cibulková, who reached the final of the Australian Open in 2014 and in 2016 won the season-ending WTA Finals, beating the world's top-ranked player. Families from Central Europe brought Dominika to the United States in the late twentieth century.

Fashion outlook
Dominika sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- A settled meaning that is easy to explain.
- Well known across Central Europe, with Domi and Nika as ready short forms.
- Rare in America, so a Dominika is unlikely to share her name.
- People will write Dominica or Dominique, so it will need spelling out.
- The Polish and American pronunciations differ; decide which one the family uses.
- Four syllables is long for everyday use, and most Dominikas answer to a short form.
