Very few English words come with a contemporary explanation attached, and daisy is one: Chaucer stops in the prologue to the Legend of Good Women to say the flower is called the day's eye, and that is a piece of fourteenth-century etymology that modern scholarship has simply confirmed. Spanish-language naming took the name from English and wrote it as Spanish would hear it — Deisy, Deysi, Daysi — which is how a thousand-year-old English compound ended up spelled three ways in Central America.
