The story of Decklan
Declan's history is a local one for most of its length. Deaglan was venerated around Ardmore in County Waterford, where a round tower and a holy well still carry his name, and for centuries the name went almost nowhere else. Ireland took it up broadly only in the twentieth century, and from there it moved to Britain, Australia and the United States as part of the general American appetite for Irish names. The ck spelling is entirely American and belongs to the last few decades.
