Where it comes from

The story of Debborah

Debbie Reynolds, a nineteen-year-old with almost no dance training, was cast opposite Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor in Singin' in the Rain and rehearsed until her feet bled; she later said childbirth and the film were the two hardest things she ever did. In 1960 the McKee Baking Company of Tennessee put a drawing of the founders' four-year-old granddaughter, Debbie, in a straw hat on its new line of snack cakes, and Little Debbie became one of the best-known faces in American groceries. Debborah, with its doubled b, was a spelling of the mid-century.
