Our story of Dayra
Ours, offered as ours. Da'ira is the Arabic word for a circle, and it carried a great deal of technical weight — Islamic astronomy and geometry used it constantly, and the word passed into Persian, Turkish and Urdu with the mathematics. Latin American naming almost certainly reached Dayra through the Day- family instead. Both facts are true and it is better to give the second as the likelier while naming the first.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No source is established. Arabic da'ira means a circle or a sphere and is a technical term in geometry and astronomy. The Day- opening of Latin American naming, which produced Dayana, Dayami and Dayani, is the likelier source.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Cherisse test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dayra's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Cherisse climbed just as high around 1974, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Cherisse's path sketches the road Dayra is walking now.
Dayra sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
