Danthony is an initial joined to a name. The construction — a single consonant, sometimes with an apostrophe, in front of a complete given name — produced D'Angelo, D'Andre, D'Marcus and Danthony, and it belongs specifically to American naming from the 1970s onward. Its peak is 1996.

Our story of Danthony
The apostrophe construction has a real ancestry, and it is not the one people usually assume. French and Italian surnames carry d' as a genuine preposition — d'Angelo, of Angelo; d'Amico, of the friend — and those surnames were present in America in large numbers. African-American naming took the visual form and detached it from the grammar, producing D'Andre, D'Anthony, D'Shawn and dozens more where the apostrophe marks nothing and the front is simply a letter. The result is a construction that looks like it has a preposition and does not. That is not a misunderstanding so much as a repurposing: the mark signals that this is a name of a particular kind, and it does that job perfectly well without meaning anything. Danthony drops the apostrophe and keeps the shape.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Antonius was a Roman gens name and its meaning is not recoverable — it is probably Etruscan, a language that can be read but not understood. The gloss 'priceless' comes from a Renaissance attempt to connect it to Greek anthos, 'flower', which also produced the silent h in Anthony; neither has standing. The D- front carries no lexical content. So neither half supplies a meaning, though one of them has a very well documented history.
