The story of Danille
Daniel Hale Williams qualified as a surgeon in Chicago in the eighteen-eighties, at a point when Black doctors could not hold hospital appointments and Black women were not admitted to nursing schools. He opened his own hospital, with an interracial staff and a nurse-training program attached, and ran it on donations. In its second year he opened a man's chest in the operating room after a stab wound, sutured the sac around the heart, and closed; the patient lived for years afterwards, and the operation is one of the earliest successful ones of its kind on record. He went on to reorganise a federal hospital in Washington and to co-found the national association of Black physicians, because the existing medical association would not admit them. The hospital he built in Chicago trained nurses for decades.

Fashion outlook
Danille sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Dani comes off it at once and works for a child of any age.
- Back stress gives the name a firm landing.
- The meaning is a full sentence and is documented all the way back.
- Danielle is overwhelmingly the standard spelling and this will be corrected constantly.
- The dropped letter is silent, so the spelling must be given aloud every time.
- Danielle has been common for decades, so the sound is very familiar.
