Daivd
Masculine · “beloved”
Daivd swaps two letters and produces something English cannot say. The standard name ends in a vowel followed by a d; this spelling puts the v after the vowel and the d after that, and a v-plus-d cluster at the end of a word does not exist in English. The name is written in letters that describe an impossible sound.

The story of Daivd
One of the more surprising things about David is how recently anything outside the Bible confirmed he existed. For most of the twentieth century scholars had no evidence for him at all beyond the text, and a substantial school held that the united kingdom he supposedly ruled was a later invention. Then in the 1990s a broken stone turned up in the north of Israel with an Aramaic inscription by an enemy king, boasting about killing somebody from the house of David — a dynasty named after a founder, which is about as good as evidence gets for a figure of that age.
Meaning
beloved
The Hebrew name is generally read as beloved, and it belongs to the most written-about figure in the Hebrew Bible. The transposition here is the classic writing error — two adjacent letters exchanged — and it is unusual among such errors in that the result is unpronounceable. Most transpositions survive because both orders can be said; this one survives only because everybody reads it as the name it obviously is.

Fashion outlook
Daivd sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The name behind it is one of the most established in the world.
- Dave and Davy are both available and need no explanation anywhere.
- The written form is genuinely rare while the spoken name is universal.
- Every document, teacher and autocorrect will put the letters back in order.
- Most readers will treat the spelling as a slip rather than a variant.
- The letters as written describe a sound English does not permit.
