Where it comes from

The story of Chrystina

The chrys- of chrysanthemum and chrysalis is Greek chrysos, gold, a different word from the christ- of Christina, and Chrystina borrows its look. Christina Olson, who lived on a farm in Maine, had lost the use of her legs and moved by pulling herself along with her arms; her neighbor Andrew Wyeth painted her from behind, lying in a dry field and looking up at her house, and Christina's World became one of the best-known American paintings. Chrystina is one of the spellings American families used for Christina.
