Christin drops a letter that marks nothing. The final e on Christine is a French convention for a feminine form, silent in French and inert in English, and taking it off changes the name in no way that any listener could detect — which is exactly why American families did it.

The story of Christin
Christine Jorgensen came back from Denmark in the early 1950s and found the American press waiting. She had gone for surgery and hormone treatment as a private matter; a leaked letter turned it into the front page of a New York newspaper, and she spent the rest of her life as the most famous transgender woman in the country. What is striking in the record is how she handled it — an army veteran with a photographer's training who gave interviews with complete composure, took a nightclub act on tour because that was the work available, and declined to be either apologetic or a symbol. She chose the name herself.
Meaning
a Christian
The name is the feminine of Christian, from a Greek word meaning anointed, and it entered English from French. The dropped letter is one of a very small number of alterations available to somebody who wants a familiar name to look like their own: the stressed syllable cannot be touched, the consonants are fixed, and the silent letters at the edges are the only place with any give.
How the name formed

Fashion outlook
Christin sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
