The story of Christapher
A.A. Milne named the boy in his children's books after his son, used the son's real toys, and set the stories in the woodland near the family's house. The books made an enormous amount of money and made the child famous before he was old enough to consent to any of it. He was bullied at school with recordings of himself reciting his father's verses, went into the war partly to get away from it, and afterwards opened a bookshop in Devon, where customers came specifically to look at him. He wrote three volumes of memoir about the whole business, and the position he arrived at was carefully fair: he said his father had got where he was by climbing on his son's shoulders, and had then filled his son's arms with the bill. He was estranged from his mother for the last decades of her life.
