The story of Charde
Sade is a Yoruba short form, and the singer who made it famous carried it to audiences who had never seen it written. American families who loved the sound spelled it in many ways, Sharde, Shardae and Charde among them. Charde uses the French ch for sh and an e for the final ay, which makes it look like a French word, though there is no such word in French. The r in the middle is not in the original name, and no record explains who first put it there.

a respelling of Sade
Charde most likely respells Sade, the professional name of the singer Sade Adu, from the Yoruba Folasade. It adds an r that is not in the Yoruba name, and the record does not say why.

Fashion outlook
Charde sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
