The story of Celestina
Caelestinus was a late Roman name and a papal one, and Italian and Spanish made Celestino and Celestina of it. The Spanish work known as La Celestina, published at the end of the fifteenth century, gave the name a second life — its title character is an old procuress, which is a mixed inheritance. The name has been in steady use in Italy, Spain, Mexico and the Philippines regardless.
