Camrin
Masculine · “crooked nose”

Camrin drops the middle vowel out of Cameron, which is what fast speech does to it anyway. The front of the name is also an ordinary English word with a good history: a cam, the lobe on a rotating shaft that turns a circle into a push, is named after a comb — the shape of the teeth was the point of comparison.

Where it comes from
From a Scottish clan surname about a crooked nose to Camrin
The story of Camrin
The cam is one of the small mechanical ideas that made everything else possible. A wheel turns continuously; a cam is a lump on that wheel, and as it passes it lifts something and lets it drop. That is the whole invention, and with it a rotating shaft can be made to hammer, to pump, to open a valve at exactly the right moment. Medieval mills used them for fulling cloth and forging iron; every internal combustion engine has a shaft full of them. The word came from the Dutch for a comb because a row of them on a shaft looks like one, which is as good a naming as engineering ever manages.

crooked nose, at several removes
The Scottish surname behind it is generally read as a nickname about a crooked nose, which is the sort of thing highland clans were named for. This spelling compresses the three syllables to two and swaps the ending, so almost nothing of the original survives on the page. The English word cam is unrelated to any of it — it came from Dutch, where it means a comb, and reached English through millwrights and clockmakers.

Fashion outlook
Camrin sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
